Competitor Discovery and Management Guide

Overview

Competitor discovery is the process of finding and tracking competitors for your products. The Competitors tab is the hub for competitor stores, discovery overview, and auto-discovery. You can also add competitor product URLs from a product profile, run a one-time discovery, or import via CSV.

The Competitors Tab

Open the Competitors tab in the main navigation. It has two parts:

  1. Discovery overview at the top
  2. Competitor stores list below

Discovery Overview

The overview card shows:

FieldMeaning
StatusIdle, discovering..., or Quota reached
Auto-discoveryActive, Off, or Paused (when monthly quota is reached). Click the badge to toggle.
Monthly capacityProduct searches used this month versus your plan limit (variants count as separate searches)

When a run is in progress or just finished, the overview also shows how many products were processed.

Discovery options (page actions):

  • Settings — configure how discovery searches (see Discovery Settings)
  • Start one-time discovery — run discovery now for products that have not been searched yet

When auto-discovery is active, a run starts automatically after you add new competitor stores or import new products. Add your competitor stores first so each run uses monthly capacity efficiently.

Competitor Stores List

Add competitors opens a dialog to enter competitor domains (for example, competitor.com) — not full product URLs. Full product URLs are added from a product profile (see Manual Addition).

The list has two sub-tabs:

Sub-tabPurpose
ActiveStores you track. Discovery can search them.
AvoidedStores excluded from future discovery. Competitor URLs from these domains are removed.

Search by domain from the filter bar.

Active tab columns

  • Competitor domain (with favicon and link)
  • Products tracked
  • Last sync
  • Adjustments (global percentage/value, plus how many products have product-specific adjustments)
  • Status (discovering..., discovery target)
  • Settings (gear icon)

Avoided tab

  • Domain and Avoided status
  • Add stores from this tab to add them as avoided immediately

Edit mode Click Edit, select stores, then:

  • Delete — remove the stores and all competitor URLs in those domains
  • Set as avoided (Active tab) — move to Avoided, exclude from future discovery, and remove existing URLs in those domains
  • Restore to active (Avoided tab) — move stores back to Active

If discovery found matches that still need review, Manage unconfirmed competitor URLs opens the same confirmation modal described below.

Auto-Discovery vs One-Time Discovery

Auto-discovery

  • Toggle from the overview badge, or enable it in Discovery settings
  • When active, a discovery run starts after you add competitor stores or import new products
  • Pauses automatically when monthly capacity is reached until the next period or you upgrade

One-time discovery

  • Competitors tab → Start one-time discovery
  • Products tab → Discover or import competitors (or bulk Discover competitors in Edit mode)
  • Product profile → Discover competitors for that product (or variant)

You can keep working while a run is in progress. A banner on the Products list shows status (in progress, finished, failed, or canceled), with Cancel or Restart when applicable. Unconfirmed matches are highlighted in purple. High-similarity matches are confirmed automatically based on your auto-confirm score.

Discovery Settings

Open CompetitorsDiscovery optionsSettings (or Start one-time discovery to apply settings for a run).

Search Scope

Discover all available competitors

  • Search Google and other marketplaces for matching products

Discover in selected stores

  • Search only the stores you select (your known direct competitors)
  • Stores marked as discovery targets show a discovery target badge in the Active list

Extra Sources

  • Include Google Shopping — search Google Shopping as well as Google
  • Prioritize Amazon — use a dedicated Amazon search flow

Advanced

Click Advanced to configure:

Search by

  • barcode and title (default) — for more results when barcodes are available
  • title only — useful if barcodes are mismatched
  • barcode only — most accurate
  • SKU only — when the same SKUs are used across many stores

Target country for discovery

  • Limit search results to a country (for example, you sell in Germany but also want to cover the Austrian market; or France and Belgium)

Minimum similarity score

  • Raise the threshold (for example 60–80%) to require closer matches and fewer candidates
  • Lower it to include more candidate URLs
  • Default: 50%

Auto-confirm score

  • Matches scoring above this threshold are confirmed automatically and start tracking
  • Choose Don't auto-confirm to review every match yourself

Competitor stores to avoid

  • Domains that must never be suggested or tracked

Methods of Adding Competitor Product URLs

Method 1: Manual Addition (Single Product)

When to Use

  • You know the exact competitor product URL
  • You want immediate control over which competitors to track
  • For testing or specific competitor monitoring

How to Add

  1. Open a product detail page
  2. Paste the competitor product URL
  3. Optionally enable Use AI to find price for better extraction (uncheck for faster extraction if it works for you)
  4. Click Add with a direct link
  5. The system extracts the price and starts tracking

Requirements

  • Valid product URL (must include the full path, not just the domain)
  • Competitor site must be accessible
  • Product must exist on the competitor site

AI Price Finding

  • When enabled, uses AI to locate the price on the page
  • Helpful if the default parser does not find the price
  • May take slightly longer to process

Method 2: Automatic Discovery (Bulk)

When to Use

  • You want to find competitors for many products at once
  • You already added competitor store domains (or want to discover everywhere)
  • You want automated matching

How to Use

  1. From the Competitors tab, choose Start one-time discovery, or click Discover or import competitors on the Products list (you can also select specific products or start from a product profile)
  2. Choose discovery mode:
    • Discover all available competitors
    • Discover in selected stores — pick the stores to search
  3. Adjust Google Shopping, Amazon, and Advanced options if needed
  4. Start the run
  5. Confirm or discard matches that were not auto-confirmed

Discovery Process

  1. System analyzes your products (title, SKU, barcode)
  2. Searches competitor stores (and Google / Google Shopping / Amazon, depending on settings)
  3. Uses matching strategies based on your Search by setting:
    • Barcode
    • Title similarity
    • SKU
  4. Presents matches for confirmation
  5. Auto-confirms results above your auto-confirm score
  6. Starts tracking confirmed competitors

Method 3: CSV Import

When to Use

  • You have a list of competitor URLs
  • You want to import many competitors at once
  • You have competitor data in spreadsheet format

CSV Format Options

Option A: SKUs

  • Column 1: Your product SKU
  • Column 2: Corresponding competitor URL (e.g., https://competitor.com/product/123)
  • (Optionally) Column 3: Corresponding URL for another competitor
  • An example CSV file is available for download within the dialog

Option B: Product titles

  • Column 1: Your product title
  • Column 2: Corresponding competitor URL (e.g., https://competitor.com/product/123)
  • (Optionally) Column 3: Corresponding URL for another competitor
  • An example CSV file is available for download within the dialog

How to Import

  1. Click Discover or import competitors on the Products list
  2. Switch to Import via CSV File
  3. Select the CSV file
  4. Choose format (title or SKU — check Use SKU instead of product name for variants)
  5. Click Import
  6. The system processes and matches competitors

CSV behavior

  • CSV file format (.csv), one product per row
  • If a product already has a competitor with the same domain, that row is skipped
  • Products referenced in the file that are not already in your account are imported automatically

Store Adjustments

For each competitor store, open Settings (gear on the Competitors list, or from a competitor row on a product):

Percentage Adjustment

  • Adjust competitor prices by percentage
  • Example: +22% if the competitor includes shipping or VAT
  • Applied to all competitors from that store (unless a product-specific adjustment is set)

Value Adjustment

  • Adjust competitor prices by a fixed amount
  • Example: +$5 if the competitor charges shipping separately
  • Applied to all competitors from that store

Product-specific adjustment

  • Override the store-wide adjustment for one product (or variant)
  • Set from competitor settings on that product URL, not from store-only settings

When to Use Adjustments

  • Competitor includes shipping/taxes in the price
  • Competitor uses a different package size that you want to normalize
  • Competitor store currently has a promotional discount

You can set percentage and value adjustments together, both globally and per product.

Enable Show original competitor price (when adjusted) in Products list settings (gear icon) to see the unadjusted price in parentheses next to the adjusted price.

Confirming Competitors

How to Confirm

  • Click the confirm icon next to a competitor
  • Use the domain menu (⋯) on a competitor row to Confirm multiple competitors in that store domain
  • When the product has variants, or you are in Edit mode with a selection, choose the scope:
    • All products
    • This product only (useful when there are many product variants)
    • Selected products (Edit mode)
  • Bulk confirm in Manage unconfirmed competitors (by similarity level, by domains, or by SKU)

Reporting Issues

  • Wrong price — extraction is incorrect
  • Wrong match — the competitor product does not match yours
  • Optional comment (for example inc-VAT vs ex-VAT, missed out-of-stock)

If a competitor shows a sync error, Report helps prioritize investigation.

From a product profile, Other → Report issue reports a problem with that product (not a specific competitor URL).

Managing Unconfirmed Competitors

Open Manage unconfirmed competitors from the Competitors tab or the Products list when discovery results need review. The modal has three tabs:

TabPurpose
By similarity levelConfirm matches at or above a score (90% down to 10%), or discard everything below that score
By domainsConfirm or discard all competitors from selected store domains; discarded domains can be removed from the list
By SKUDiscard discovered matches where SKUs do not match. Optionally Discard confirmed too. Use carefully — SKUs can differ across stores

A discovery progress banner on the Products list shows discovery status and links to the Needs action tab.

Competitor Price Tracking

Update Frequency

Competitor prices are updated:

  • Based on your update interval setting (24h, 12h, 6h)
  • When you choose Request update now from the competitor menu (⋯)

Price History

View historical price changes:

  • Open the product detail page
  • View the price history chart
  • See competitor price trends
  • Identify price change patterns

Chart Features

  • Multiple competitor lines
  • Your product price line (black)
  • Hover for exact values
  • Click a competitor name to hide it

Best Practices

  1. Add competitor stores first on the Competitors tab, then run discovery so monthly capacity is used efficiently
  2. Turn on auto-discovery once stores are in place so new products are searched automatically
  3. Set minimum similarity and auto-confirm scores to match how much review you want
  4. Verify matches: confirm or discard purple (unconfirmed) competitors promptly
  5. Use Avoided for stores that are never relevant
  6. Set adjustments so compared prices reflect shipping, VAT, or pack size
  7. Report issues when extraction or matching is wrong

Troubleshooting

Discovery Not Finding Competitors

  • Check if your products have barcodes (important)
  • Try Search by: title only
  • Enable Include Google Shopping
  • Lower the Minimum similarity score
  • Try manual addition with a competitor URL

Wrong Competitors Matched

  • Raise the minimum similarity score
  • Review discovery scores and confirm only good matches
  • Discard by domain and add those stores to Avoided
  • Try Discover in selected stores for known competitors only
  • Reach out to the team (in-app chat or [email protected]) — we will help set up competitors for free

Prices Not Updating

  • Check update interval settings
  • Verify competitor sites are accessible
  • Check for extraction errors
  • Use Request update now on the competitor

Price Extraction Issues

  • Report the competitor (Wrong price) with the expected price
  • Toggle Use AI to find price when adding a URL
  • Check if the page structure changed
  • Verify the competitor site is accessible

Too Many False Matches

  • Discard in bulk in Manage unconfirmed competitorsBy similarity level
  • Use By domains to discard unreliable stores
  • Add stores to Avoided before the next run
  • Use By SKU when SKU data exists on both sides but does not match
  • Raise minimum similarity or auto-confirm scores

Monthly Quota Reached

  • Auto-discovery pauses until capacity resets
  • Consider upgrading the plan from Manage my plan
  • One-time discovery will not run until quota is available

Advanced Features

Multi-Variant Competitors

For products with variants:

  • Each of your variants can have different competitor URLs
  • Multiple competitors under the same competitor URL are supported when that URL has variants
  • In competitor settings, Enable variants for current competitor URL maps detected (or Chrome extension / manual) competitor variants to your variants
  • Duplicate to other variants copies a competitor URL to variants that do not yet have a competitor from that store
